Botan Bench

A cedar bench, available in two sizes, with and without the back.

I designed this bench originally for the roof terrace of a small office in Tokyo which I use as a studio when I’m there. It was a prototype for an idea to make a blow-moulded ‘fake’ garden bench which was to have a texture of wood grain and a self-assembly construction. In the end the project never happened, but the bench remained on the terrace, used on sunny days at lunchtime. Eventually I proposed it to Maruni as a product which could a have a number of applications, both outdoor and in public areas indoors. It will soon appear in the new Tate Modern extension designed by Herzog & de Meuron.
