When I designed this chair I had somewhere in my mind the Isokon logo, something of Gerald Summers’ chair with its single flowing plywood surface, and Rietveld’s Zig-Zag chair. The seat and back heights and angles relate more to the Cork Chair I designed for a Vitra Edition in 2007.
Moulded plywood and Isokon’s skill in producing it are the key technical factors that determined the chair. Beforehand, I didn’t know that the thinning of the layers of plywood was easy enough to achieve in production. The challenges were structural sufficiency, line and proportion, and of course comfort.
