Lac Chair

2004

A moulded leather, machine-stitched chair with a one-piece polypropylene substructure.

Timeline

LAC stands for Leather Air Chair. I had the idea that a new product could be made by Cappellini, a company specialising in hand-finished quality at the top end of the price scale, by using the Air Chair made by Magis, a company specialising in highly technological machine-made products at the lower end of the market. Magis supplies Cappellini with plastic moulded Air Chairs, which Cappellini then cover with stitched leather. Not much of a design process you might think, but actually it is a very different product serving very different needs and a certain economy of means is always a good basis for a project.
