A range of cast-iron table and cookware.

Timeline
Japan Creative – a nonprofit organisation backed by the Seibu Group and Elle Decor Japan – invited me to work with the cast iron manufacturer Oigen in Iwate, just north of the area affected by the 2011 tsunami.

The design began with an idea that I had while visiting the factory for the first time in 2011 for a salt, pepper, and mustard server. We went for lunch at a local restaurant run by chef Katsuyasu Ito, who uses cast iron for most of his cooking; and he convincingly demonstrated his techniques with various cast-iron pots and pans. It is a fantastic material for cooking, with the health benefits of adding iron to the diet.

The collection was exhibited at the 2012 Milan Fair at a beautiful exhibition designed by Masaaki Hiromura.
