We were working on a new sofa and I had proposed a sketch design with a wooden frame to Giulio Cappellini. Someone at Cappellini, intending to encourage me to finish the technical drawing, sent me a computer rendering worked up from the sketch, which completely killed the project for me. In the meantime I started drawing a very different, rather feminine shape with a kind of Neo Art Deco character; nevertheless it seemed fresh and new to my sketchbook, and we went ahead with it. The biggest problem we had with it surprisingly were the stitching details on the cushions, which in plan view are curved at the outer ends and sharp-cornered in the centre. That was resolved.
