Jasper took his first studio at the start of 1990, at 275 Kensal Road, in north-west London. A journalist interviewed him there and described it so: ‘Other than that box of curves, there’s not much else of note in his windowless studio in London NW10: a single desk, an old telephone, a naked lightbulb, a few boxes filled with assorted junk; no heating to speak of, not even a tea machine. ... this is a downright barren situation. Several as yet unworked sheets of pressboard lie strewn across the floor... The shabby state of his studio furniture is entirely understandable.’
