Invitation to A World Photo Show, ink stamped on linen.
In 1983 Jasper and his friend Duncan Ward held a photography exhibition at the flat they shared, showing their own work and that of their friends Paul Kasmin and Kadir Guirey. Jasper showed some of the photographs he had taken on his trip to Mexico earlier that year, including the one above of a rodeo in Oaxaca. The postcard of it was likely made for this exhibition.
The invitations to A World Photo Show were made of linen with the text printed on by hand. I photocopied the monkey and added ‘We Aim to Please’, then ordered the stamp as a kind of logo for the show. He used the stamp again on stationery and business cards, and on the invitation cards he sent out for his final degree show at the Royal College of Art.
